Poland - Krakow - 29 October - 2 November

Took the bus from Berlin into Krakow.  It was quicker than the train and no changes but still took 8 hours.  Had our first taste of winter here, going down to -1 and dark at 4 30 pm.  Did  a 4 hour walking tour of the old town to see all the sights, visited the Wieliczka Salt Mines, an underground city located on 9 levels to 327 metres below ground which started in the 14 th century.   Did a 2.5 hour walking tour of the Jewish Quarters and Ghetto and visited Auschwitz and Birkenau where its estimated 1.1 - 1.6 million people were exterminated by the Nazis during WW11.  It was All Saints day, a public holiday in Poland where everyone took flowers and candles to the graveyards to remember.  A very emotional day for this country.  We could not believe the share size of the camp and will never forget what we saw and heard.  Very hard to comprehend.
